John Gimson has been a formidable force on the Olympic circuit for more than a decade across a wide range of classes from 470 dinghies to Tornado catamarans, Star keelboats to the foiling Nacra 17 multihull.
Having grown up sailing GP14s with his dad at Redesmere Sailing Club near Macclesfield, Gimson soon got the racing bug, winning the National 12 Youth Championships at a young age.
In 2001 he was crowned national champion in the 29er class, and came runner-up at the class world and European championships, paving the way for a glittering senior career.
Burnet spent seven years campaigning the 470 alongside British Sailing Team and best friend athlete Flora Stewart before making the jump into the high performance Olympic classes in 2016.
Gimson and Burnet teamed up the same year and have since proven themselves a skilled crew, capable of world-class performances.
